Making wishes come true for our residents

As part of this years ‘Together We Can’ initiative our teams and homes continue to support the wishes, wants and challenges of both our residents and our employees.

One of our lovely residents Tom from our Mere Hall Care Home, in Hornsea who is living with Dementia, made a simple wish…….to see the sea!

Thanks to our company-wide initiative and huge team effort, they planned a seaside outing for Tom to visit one of his favourite spots at Bridlington, where he also received a surprise visit from his daughter and her husband.

Confusion soon changed to delight, as Tom sat hand in hand with his daughter Angela, mesmerized by the panoramic view of the waves, whilst they all tucked into their delicious cream tea.

Tom, his family and the Mere Hall Team, enjoyed a heart warming and fulfilled afternoon.

Angela, Tom’s daughter added “A huge thank you to everyone who made todays trip to Bridlington Spa so very special for Dad and for making his wish to see the sea become a reality for him. This was the first time he’d been out in two years and I’ll admit I was a little apprehensive about how he’d be, but everyone was absolutely brilliant with him, and he clearly enjoyed himself immensely, eating his cream tea whilst quietly watching the waves. I know that he’ll not remember anything from today, but I also know that its those ‘in the moment’ experiences that matter so much to someone like Dad, who is living with dementia. Thank you again for making it possible, and an afternoon of making lovely memories for us to treasure”.
