A Safety In Care Award!

We are pleased to announce that we have won a safety in care award from NASHICS (National Association of Safety and Health in Care Services)!

We won the award after purchasing a number of Dechoker’s for each of our Homes when we saw the increased risks of swallowing difficulties in the elderly and that traditional first aid techniques are not always successful. Soon after these were installed resident Ivy (pictured) choked on her dinner. Fortunately, a Care Assistant, Jodie Smith reacted calmly and quickly and, using her training and the Dechoker, saved Ivy’s life.

Chris Jackson (National Chair of NASHICS) very nicely attended Magdalen Park to present Ivy (Resident), Nicole (Registered Manager), Laura (Residential Care Manager) and Jonathan (Operations Director) with a certificate and £150, which we have put in the residents fund.

Chris said ‘Congratulations to Yorkare Homes. We received a very impressive set of nominations this year, highlighting some high-quality and thought-provoking initiatives and it is encouraging that so many providers are taking responsibility for developing new, efficient approaches to managing health and safety.’

Nicole said ‘We are delighted to have won this award, a big thank you to NASHICS. Also a huge well done to Jodie, we are all so proud of you!’

Residents and staff had the opportunity to share stories with the fire fighters, reminiscing over warm drinks and cake before trying on their heavy protection gear and helmets and sitting in the drivers seat of the fire…
