When award-winning actress Sheridan Smith walked through the doors of our care home to surprise 89-year-old resident Jim, it was a truly unforgettable moment. The room was filled with excitement, laughter, and a reminder of how meaningful community connections can be.
Jim is well known in Driffield as the former landlord of The Rink, a pub famous for its Saturday night entertainment. Sheridan’s parents, a performing duo known as The Daltons, often took to Jim’s stage – and it was here that a young Sheridan Smith first performed at just nine years old, stealing the spotlight and delighting the audience.

After seeing a social media post about Jim enjoying her new drama I Fought the Law, Sheridan reached out, determined to give something back to the man who gave her family a place to perform all those years ago.

Sheridan’s visit was nothing short of magical. With Jim’s family, friends, fellow residents, and our care team gathered around, the afternoon was full of heartfelt conversations, belly laughs, and emotional memories. Jim hasn’t stopped talking about it – and neither have we!
Moments like these remind us why we do what we do at Yorkare Homes. Sheridan’s kindness and generosity touched everyone present and created a memory that Jim and our entire community will cherish forever.
