A salute to our resident John aged 92 from our Beverley Parklands Care Home in Beverley, who volunteered to assist the Royal British Legion Poppy Stand at the Aldi store in Beverley over the weekend, on the run up to Remembrance Day, Friday 11th November 2022.
John, having joined the Royal Navy in 1945 at the age of 15, wanted to show his respects to fellow comrades by offering to help sell the poppies this week, as he knows that this support is a lifeline for thousands of serving and ex-serving personnel and their families.
The Royal British Legion is constantly working hard to support the most vulnerable in our society, be it older veterans that we care for, those who suffer from social isolation, or those who are simply overwhelmed by the challenges associated with the cost-of-living crisis.
By buying a poppy, your donations help support members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, veterans, and their families and the Armed Forces community.
The UK will come together for Remembrance Day, which is also known as Armistice Day, and a two-minute silence will held at 11am to remember the people who have died in wars around the world.
Remembrance Day marks the day World War One ended, at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month, in 1918.
